The Okinawa Prefecture Karate Museum, founded by Tetsuhiro Hokama (Hanshi 10th Dan), is located in Uehara, Nishihara, Nakagami District, Okinawa, Japan. It is situated on the second floor of Hokama Sensei’s dojo, which was established on February 16, 1978. The museum opened officially on January 11, 1987.

Hokama Sensei began collecting items after inheriting artifacts from his grandfather. His interest in preserving martial arts history led to a unique collection that includes rare materials related to karate, ancient martial arts, training equipment, and weapons. The museum has become an important destination for those interested in the roots and growth of Okinawan martial arts.

Alongside the museum, Hokama Sensei runs a Martial Arts History Tour for those who want a broader context on karate’s development. His dojo also offers training, with both group classes and private lessons available. Practitioners from around the world visit to study with him and explore the historical material he has preserved.
