Located within Tomari Fishing Port in Naha City, Tomari Iyumachi is a vibrant market offering freshly caught seafood. Established in May 2005 with the aim of promoting Okinawan marine products, the market features several fresh fish shops selling seafood caught that day.
Iyumachi

“Iyu” means fish in Okinawan dialect, and “machi” means market. The facility houses about 20-24 wholesale stores. There is an abundance of colorful fish unique to Okinawa, and some stores even offer nationwide shipping.
At the back of the facility, there is a glass-walled dismantling room where you can watch tuna and other fish being processed if the timing is right. Since products may sell out quickly after noon and some stores close when they run out of stock, it is best to visit early in the morning.

The average daily catch here is about 20 tons, and during peak times, it can reach up to 50 tons. Approximately 70% of the catch consists of tuna. In addition to fresh seafood, the market offers ready-to-eat options such as sashimi, sushi, tempura, and seafood rice bowls. This allows visitors to enjoy a meal on-site or take it to go. These aspects make Tomari Iyumachi not only a place to purchase fresh seafood but also a destination to experience Okinawa’s local culture and cuisine firsthand.
